Using Digital Cameras

Introduction to Digital Photography * Digital Communications

Does your classroom have digital cameras, computers, printers, and access to the Internet? Then you're set to have your students "go digital" - shoot, edit, organize, and share digital photos - as they create information about the subject matter they study. From digital storytelling to powerful presentations, students learn better when they create as they learn, which is an aspect of 21st century learning. What are the steps you need to know? Follow this tried and true organization, and you'll have it all under control.

Video Games - Educational Vale

Understanding Video Game Players * News Summary

Game players are more rooted in reality than film viewers, says a new report. The project supports a virtually unanimous opinion among gamers that play does not need lead to real life violence. The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has released, Video Games, a report intended to give insight to why people play video games and what impact they think playing games has on them. BBFC is an independent, non-governmental body which rates films, videos and video games. CrowdAbout

Need atool to help you know more aboutwho is listening to podcasts?  This may be a solution

So you have a podcast, and you are pretty sure you have an audience of some sort, because your download statistics have real numbers. But numbers don't tell you anything about the people listening or viewing your show. Those statistics don't tell you that Aunt Fannie in Missouri loves it when you talk about your cat, or Pierre in Paris wishes you'd mention your Ducati bike more often. Did you even know that Aunt Fannie and Pierre had names and faces? Do you know who is listening to your show?

The Secret Lives of MP3 Files

Levelator

More resources for all of us in the world of moving ewducation forward

Do you believe in magic? You will after using The Levelator to enhance your podcast. And you'll be amazed that it's free (for non-commercial use).

So what is The Levelator? It's software that runs on Windows or OS X (universal binary) that adjusts the audio levels within your podcast or other audio file for variations from one speaker to the next, for example. It's not a compressor, normalizer or limiter although it contains all three. It's much more than those tools, and it's much simpler to use. The UI is dirt-simple: Drag-and-drop any WAV or AIFF file onto The Leveler's application window, and a few moments later you'll find a new version which just sounds better.

Hot Potatoes

While I have not yet looked at this - I thought it might be a useful program for those of us in education.  Seems to be windows - but a Java version for the mac.

The Hot Potatoes suite includes six applications, enabling you to create interactive multiple-choice, short-answer, jumbled-sentence, crossword, matching/ordering and gap-fill exercises for the World Wide Web. Hot Potatoes is not freeware, but it is free of charge for those working for publicly-funded non-profit-making educational institutions, who make their pages available on the web. Other users must pay for a licence. Check out the Hot Potatoes licencing terms and pricing on the Half-Baked Software Website.

Good grief - what good could come of this...

Send fake emails - so those parents who are not web savvy could think an email came from a teacher - but it does not.  Seems like trouble brewing - even more than SPAM.

Professional Development

David Jakes has some interesting ideas in this article.  Many of them are what we are doing in one of the classes I am teaching to Educators.   I wonder what other items should be integragted.

Professional Development and Web 2.0
David Jakes
from Technology & Learning

Professional development in most schools has a predictable look and feel: summer workshops, brown-bag luncheon trainings, and the infamous in-service day. These events can be successful, and there is no doubt they have helped numerous educators become better at what they do. But Web 2.0 opens up a new world of professional learning.

Pandora

What will the Radio Equity Act, H.R. 2060 do - all but kill good resources like Pandora.  We need to open up information not shut it down.

Can you help me discover more music that I'll like? Those questions often evolved into great conversations. Each friend told us their favorite artists and songs, explored the music we suggested, gave us feedback, and we in turn made new suggestions. Everybody started joking that we were now their personal DJs.We created Pandora so that we can have that same kind of conversation with you.
